While I agree with SOME of these lists, I figured, Hey...why don't I make my own list? Not that anyone really cares what I was loving this year, it would be nice to have a list like this recorded for my own nostalgic desires.
So, here ya go...SGT's top 10 albums of the 2011.
#10 - Foster the People - Torches
I jammed the crap out of songs I still don't understand.
#9 - Lykke Li - Wounded Rhymes
powerful woman.
love her.
#8 - The Civil Wars - Barton Hollow
This album serenaded me through the saddest parts of my year.
#7 - Adele - 21
This isn't exactly my usual genre, but I'm not deaf you know.
#6 - The Decemberists - The King is Dead
The soundtrack to my summer.
#5 - Florence & the Machine - Ceremonials
You gotta give this one credit. It JUST frickin came out & it's already rocked my socks off & landed itself in the #5 spot.
#4 - Iron & Wine - Kiss Each Other Clean
SO much love for Iron & Wine. Top 3 musicians for me. No doubt. And if we were talking about The Shepherd's Dog, it would be at least at #2. In it's defense, I don't think I'm being fair because I just always listen to The Shepherd's Dog rather than this. Still love it though.
#3 - Death Cab for Cutie - Codes and Keys
Life. is sweet.
Stay young go dancing.
Loved this album.
#2 - Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues
You made me love you. I didn't want to do it.
And the #1 spot...
drum roll please.....
#1 - Bon Iver - Bon Iver
You know when your favorite band comes out with a new album and you're really excited about it, but at the same time very hesitant because you just never think it will live up to the pure awesomeness of it's first album which stole your heart, and then you do listen to it & realize that it may actually be better than the first and you wonder HOW!
That was this album for me.
stole my heart.
BEST of the year.
Oh my Gosh that was SO hard!! I felt like I was choosing between friends. The #1 was, well, obvious. But then 2-10 were so close that they're all pretty even in my book. What a fabulous year for music. However, I look forward to 2012. Maybe a new Mumford album? Or Edward Sharpe? Swell Season!? Oooh I'm excited!
What about you? What was your favorite of the year? If you do a similar post, I'd love to see it. Link up in the comments!

ReplyDelete1- I just downloaded 5 albums from this list. So THANKS :)
2- I LOVE that Decemberists album. This is the second faves of 2011 list I see, and I just love it. I received this album as a gift when I interviewed the band when the album came out, and I got to see them sound-check some songs from it, and let me just tell you I was completely smitten! Love love love.
3-You are like my music soul sister. I mean, if I didn't know that after Mumford, your love of Bon Iver, Decemberists, Death Cab and Adele just confirmed it.
4- I officially need to make a fave of 2011 list too now. You've inspired me! :)
Wow I'm so jealous you got to interview Decemberists & watch them perform!
ReplyDeleteAnd you know it was very hard to not put Mumford on the list, but I'm really looking forward to a 2012 album. fingers crossed :)

ReplyDeleteYes! Love this list.
ReplyDeleteI used to be so much more exploratory in my music, but when I got married I kinda let my husband be the music one in our relationship, lol, and I kind of stopped paying a lot of attention for a while. I'm trying to re-find my music self now. I'll be checking these out, thanks!
