I know what you're thinking...
You’ve had an idea for a novel in your head for years, maybe decades. Maybe you have hundreds of ideas. Whatever it is, I know how you feel. Friend, I’ve been there.

Now, I have five written novels to my name—and counting. And there was ONE thing that totally turned things around for me.
nanowrimo.orgI heard about NaNoWriMo back in 2013. I had never really written anything professionally before (other than a blog). I didn’t know another writer and lived in a small American community in Germany.

So, I gave it a shot. And let me tell you, that novel was a mess. I wrote it out of order. My plotting skills were horrendous, and I didn’t finish the 50k words in November.

But guess what.

That novel was The Hereafter. I eventually finished it and published it. People are reading and loving my novel that I may never had written if it wasn’t for NaNoWriMo.

Sure, it took a lot of time revising and letting people read the very cringe-worthy rough drafts. But listen here. You have to start somewhere. You have to. You can’t just keep making excuses and doubting yourself. Why not at least try? Why not at least give it a shot?
That was five years ago. I’ve written a novel every year since, guys. I’ve won some, but not all. But winning really doesn’t matter. It’s the trying that matters.
So, I hope you try. If you’ve ever had the thought that you could write a book, now is your chance! Millions of people around the world will be writing along with you. It’s only 1,660 words a day! You could do that in an hour. No lie.
Get that story out, friends.
