What a great question. Lately, I've been thinking about series and trilogies. It's rare to find a stand-alone book anymore. Why is that? Well...because series are just so good, I guess. I do love a good solo book, but now that we have been spoiled by series, we just can't get as close to the characters as we can in one tiny book. It's having that world and those people to return to again and again that makes reading so enjoyable in the first place. The only gripe I have with series (what is the multiple of series? series's? serieses? anyway...) is that sometimes I feel like they just draw it out. If you're going to make a story into three or more books, make each book fantastic on its own! Each book should have a beginning, middle and end with it's own climax and conclusion. You already know some of my favorite series, but now I can share some of the series that have been calling my name for too long. And you already know ONE in particular that will make this list. Please don't throw things.
Melissa recently shared this recommendation with me. It sounds fantastic and it's set in Prague. I love books with great cities as settings.
Another rec from Melissa (it happens a lot).
This has become hugely popular, and I feel like the last person on earth who hasn't read it. I love the premise though.
I just picked this one up on Amazon because it was a great deal. I have been seeing it a lot lately.
I love everything else by Keary Taylor, so why not this one?
Such a cool premise!
I have had this book for a while now and I've started it a few times, but I keep getting lost somewhere. I hear great things and it seems like a great series.
My husband is currently raving about the show (I'm very behind on all things TV, you should know that). I have not started this one because I'm stubborn and I keep saying I'd rather read the books first.
Okay, go ahead. Yell. Scream. Throw things. In case you're new around here and haven't heard yet, I have not read the HP series. Please still find a way to love me.
There is my list. What series would be on your list? Any on here that I'm missing? I'd love to hear your recommendations!
Linking up with The Broke and the Bookish!

I'm taking a very quick Requiem break to comment on this ;) I love reading series and trilogies. I love getting caught up in the story and anticipating just getting my hands on the next book.
ReplyDeleteThese are some great suggestions! After I finish this book and mourn it's ending I'll need a new series to occupy my mind.
Go read Harry Potter crazy Jessica! I've read the books twice and will read them again. They are awesome and you will be awesome too once you read them! Who am I kidding? We all know you're already awesome =) BUT you should still read them...
I am definitely a series reader. I agree that sometimes they can be drawn out and jump the shark but I (thankfully) don't see it that often. I'm someone who always has to start at the beginning of a series too. If it's already at book number-whatever I still have to start at the beginning.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree with Ashley above your are awesome but you should read HP someday. They are pretty wonderful.
I'm working through Game of Thrones right now! Great books, good show!
ReplyDeleteI am midway through the first harry potter book but put it down to read some parenting books. This is my first time reading the series and I get it but I have never been into the hype around anything.
ReplyDeletePlease tell me you have plans to read the HP series soon!
ReplyDeleteI want to read the Graceling and the Delerium series!
Oh yeah, you have to read Harry Potter. It is such a wonderful series -maybe the best ever. JK Rowling is so good and not revealing too much. There's always this air of mystery.
ReplyDeleteOh and CINDER! Yes, you should read that right after HP :)
I have read and LOVED all of your picks except for #4 and #5. I forgot to add Shatter Me to my list and I am not familiar with Keary Taylor. I am almost finished listening to the latest Flavia book and it is so delightful! If you enjoy audiobooks I highly recommend listening to this series. Fantastic reader. http://wp.me/pzUn5-1r2
ReplyDeleteHaha, I *just* started reading the 2nd Harry Potter book. And I finished the first one a couple of months ago. It's never too late!! ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd Divergent and Insurgent (the 2nd book) is amazing. Can't wait for the 3rd to come out! :)
Oh boy! The first three and the last two you need to get on to immediately! Seriously...stop reading this comment and go start reading!!! :) JK! They are all really good books though! I hope you get around to them.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my TTT.

I'm pretty sure the last series I read was Sweet Valley High. I'm awesome.
ReplyDeleteLMAO I just randomly came across this comment while commenting below and it made me laugh. You go girl!
DeleteI love The Lunar Chronicles and The Chaos Walking trilogy. Both are so unique! And, of course, you MUST read HP. That's just a given.
ReplyDeleteGlad to have found you via TTT!
I've never read HP and I'm okay with it.
ReplyDeleteI have Divergent and Song of Fire and Ice on my nightstand..I LOVE Game of Thrones. You should just watch the show anyway. You won't regret it!
Kristin :)
I'm actually just jealous that you have't read Harry Potter yet, what I wouldn't give to be able to relive the magic of reading it for the first time all over again!
ReplyDeleteHahaha @ the first two. Must reads FOR SURE. I've decided I'm going to finish Shatter Me before I read Requiem because it's actually really good and I hate putting a book half finished aside. I shouldn't be too far behind you though!
ReplyDeleteKnife of Never Letting Go was really good too. It was really hard to get into the first book, but the last 200 pages were really really good. I bought the rest of the trilogy but haven't gotten to it yet. They're such massive novels, it took me forever to get through that first one!
I also really haven't gotten in Maggie Stiefvater yet. I keep trying with Scorpio Races but I'm just not feeling it.
Oh and The Sweetness at the Bottom of The Pie... I have the same problem as you. I've tried it but keep getting lost! Maybe it's just really not our style? I can't get through it! Why does everyone love it!?
